LDA Approved Societies in Lahore: How to Check Before You Buy
How to check LDA approved societies in Lahore before you buy: the LDA website lists, One Window Cell, layout plans and warning signs of illegal schemes.
In short
The LDA publishes separate lists of approved schemes, illegal schemes and regularised schemes on its website, lda.gop.pk. Approval of the society is not enough on its own. Your plot must sit inside the approved layout plan and on land the society actually owns. The LDA's buyer guidelines say to pay through bank drafts or pay orders and to get the full payment plan in writing. LDA City and LDA Avenue are the authority's own schemes. Check the possession status of your exact block. For questions about private housing projects, the LDA has pointed buyers to its One Window Cell.
Before you buy a plot or a house, it pays to check the list of LDA approved societies in Lahore. A society that does not have Lahore Development Authority (LDA) approval can leave you with a plot that has no approved layout plan, no guaranteed utilities, and no clear path to possession. This guide explains where to check a society's status, what to ask the developer, and the warning signs of an illegal housing society.
Where to check LDA approved societies in Lahore
The LDA's website has three lists under its quick links: LDA Approved Schemes, Illegal Schemes and LDA Regular Schemes. Search for the society's exact registered name, because many projects use marketing names that differ from the name on the approval.
The approved list is long. When the LDA published it in 2021, Zameen News reported that it contained 256 approved housing projects in Lahore district, each listed with its mouza (revenue estate) and land area. A scheme's entry by mouza helps you confirm that the project you are visiting is the one that was approved, not a neighbouring extension using the same brand.
The illegal list matters just as much. Daily Pakistan reported in August 2024 that the LDA updates this list regularly on its website and that citizens can check a society's status through the LDA portal. Its extract named schemes across Shahdara, Raiwind Road and other parts of the city.
Lists change. A scheme can be added, removed or regularised, so check on the day you make a decision, not from a screenshot someone sends you.
LDA One Window: asking the authority directly
In its October 2022 public notice, the LDA directed people seeking information on private housing projects to its One Window Cell. The LDA website also has a One Window application status page and a page setting out application requirements. If a society's name does not appear on any list, or the developer says its approval is "in process", ask at One Window before you pay anything.
The LDA's own checklist for buyers
The LDA's 2022 notice, as reported by Zameen News, set out a checklist for anyone buying in a private housing scheme. In summary:
- Get the approved layout plan (map) authorised by the relevant authority.
- Get the list of total plots by size and type.
- Confirm your plot is on the approved layout plan and lies within the acquired land.
- Check the plot is not mortgaged to the LDA or another development authority. A mortgaged plot is not free to be sold.
- Make sure the plot is not on land reserved for public amenities such as schools, health units, graveyards or community centres.
- Confirm the amenities shown on the approved plan actually exist on site.
- Confirm the project is not under investigation by NAB or another department.
The same notice told buyers not to be swayed by lofty advertising campaigns or impressive booking offices. It also said to visit the site, confirm the land matches land revenue records, get the full payment plan in writing (including development charges), ask about water, gas and electricity, and pay only through bank drafts or pay orders, keeping a stamped receipt.
LDA City and LDA Avenue
These are LDA-run schemes, not private societies, so the risk is less about approval and more about timing.
- LDA Avenue I on Raiwind Road was launched in 2002. Zameen News reported in 2015 that roads and green areas were complete and that possession had been handed over in most blocks.
- LDA City has moved more slowly. ProPakistani reported in December 2023 that possession of plots in C Block of the Jinnah Sector was beginning after allottees had waited more than 11 years.
If you are buying an LDA City file or plot, check its status through the LDA City status page on the LDA website, and confirm whether the block has been balloted and handed over.
Warning signs of illegal housing societies
- The society's name is not on the LDA approved list, or appears on the illegal list.
- The developer cannot show an approved layout plan, or the plan shown does not match the site.
- Plots are sold as "files" with no plot number long after the launch.
- Heavy discounts for cash payment, or pressure to pay before you have seen any documents.
- No visible development work: no roads, no electricity poles, no boundary wall.
- The land is not in the developer's name in the revenue records. A fard from the Punjab Land Records Authority is the usual way to check this for land outside a scheme's internal records.
What approval does not cover
LDA approval is about the scheme. It does not prove that the person selling to you owns the plot. You still need to match the seller's CNIC to the allotment letter or transfer letter, get a no-dues certificate from the society, and complete the transfer through the society's office. For a house, check that the building plan was approved.
Prices are indicative as of October 2026.

Frequently asked questions
How can I check if a society is LDA approved?
Open the LDA website, lda.gop.pk, and search the LDA Approved Schemes list for the society's registered name. Also check the Illegal Schemes list, and ask the LDA One Window Cell if you are unsure.
Is LDA City an approved society?
LDA City is the Lahore Development Authority's own scheme, not a private society. The question to ask is whether your block has been balloted and handed over. Check that through the LDA City status page.
What happens if I buy a plot in an illegal housing society?
You may have no approved layout plan, no assured utilities and no route to possession. The LDA says it acts against illegal societies, so buying in one carries a high risk.
Can a plot in an approved society still be a problem?
Yes. The plot may lie outside the approved layout plan, outside the land the developer acquired, or in the area mortgaged to the authority. Check all three before you pay.
What is the LDA One Window Cell?
It is the LDA's public facilitation desk. The LDA has directed buyers there for information on private housing projects, and its website shows One Window application status.
